Since the start of my career, I have engrained myself in the various facets of communication; learning to tell the success stories of those who have taken the leap in their personal lives to make means in the professional art of communication.

‘Communication’ in itself has been peppered as propaganda in the past. While being linked to the unlikeliness of World War 2, the historic cousin of PR, Sigmund Freud, remained closely connected to the concept of the trade. It’s been a long, notorious journey for PR practitioners.
Today, we continue to work toward gaining the traction we need to sit at the board room table and impact the functioning of services in renowned companies.
During the Coronavirus boom, we have to ask ourselves; are we placed in a position where we can spearhead the narratives of clients’ feel-good plots, and try connect with our audiences who are too, in the same situation as we are?
With SAs lockdown now in full force, we can do nothing but rely on our own life experiences and professional expertise to help our industry to continue to prosper.
Personally, I want to continue ‘plugging’ into the current thoughts and ideas of like-minded content creators, public relations practitioners, and advertising executives, for the pure reason that we CAN learn from each other.
What's Next?
Is this pandemic forcing us, as public communicators, to climb out of our comfort zone, and reconnect with those we know can help us build a stronger, more transparent narrative?
We are all placed in a very uncomfortable position to put on our extra thinking hats and be more creative than ever before. Is that a bad thing?
We may just be forced to explore the expertise gained by our communication counterparts (and, yes, maybe our competitors). This doesn’t mean giving up your secrets, your USP or ‘bread and butter’. It can also be a means of connecting with other hardworking and persevering career professionals you just need to say ‘hi’ to.
At the end of the day, we are all in this, may it be for the long run or not. Do not ignore your PR counterparts. Ask questions, learn and keep on developing your skills. Most importantly, love what you do.
